Gherardo delle Notti at the Uffizi
The Uffizi Gallery opens – on Thuesday 10th of February – the 2015 exhibition season with the first exhibition dedicated to the painter Gerrit van Honthorst, known to the Italian public as Gherardo delle Notti.
Honthorst was a very famous Caravaggio’s follower and was sought after by prestigious collectors, as the Marquis Vincenzo Giustiniani and the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo II. It ‘s also thanks to the passion of Cosimo II for Gherardo if today the Uffizi Gallery owns his five beautiful paintings: among them, the great Adoration of the Shepherds painted light at night.
The exhibition will be open until May 24.
