At the Museum of Sacred Art of the
Vallombrosa two wonderful works by Domenico Ghirlandaio are
juxtaposed. The museum hosts, for the Renaissance in
Valdarno exhibition, the Adoration of the
Magi from the Sassetti Chapel in the Florentine
Church of Santa Trinita, compared with the Madonna
with Child and Saints also known as the
Vallombrosa Altarpiece, which has been
returned to its original seat after more than 135
years.
Masaccio is the “star”
of the exhibition set up at the Masaccio
Museum of Sacred Art in Cascia di Reggello.
The work known as the Triptych of San
Giovenale is placed alongside the Madonna and
Child from the Uffizi Gallery, also known as the
Casini Madonna.
In the Museum of Sacred Art of the Collegiate
Church of Santa Maria in Figline, the Madonna
with Child and Angels by Giotto, from the Church
of Santo Stefano in Ponte in Florence, is compared
with the Madonna Enthroned with Child, Six Angels
and Saints Elisabeth of Hungary and Louis of
Toulouse, a work dating to the beginning of the
14th century attributed to the so-called Master of
Figline.
The Panel of the Tabernacle of the Linen Guild depicting
Saint Peter Preaching from the San Marco Museum in
Florence is compared, in the Museum of the Basilica
of Santa Maria delle Grazie in San Giovanni
Valdarno, with the Annunciation. Two
works by Fra Angelico, coeval but
different, both among the best works of this artist.
This itinerary concludes in the Museum of Sacred
Art of the Collegiate Church of San Lorenzo in
Montevarchi where the works of two members of the
same family are side by side: the Tempietto of the
relic of the Holy Milk by Andrea della Robbia, that
hosts, for the Renaissance in Valdarno Exhibition, the
Bust of a Girl by Luca della Robbia, a glazed
terracotta piece from the National Museum of Bargello.
